Survey/Project Number: 122          Total No. of Sites: 15
Survey/Project Name: Cow Island (University of South Australia)
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a biological survey, in 2000, to collect data on the vegetation associations of Cow Island, which is suitable for use in the revegetation of Hack Point in the Coorong National Park, south of Meningie, South Australia.

Start Date: 11/07/2000      End Date: 10/09/2000
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: On a small island in the Coorong. The major landform pattern is a Consolidated Dunefield with calcareous lithology, supporting a range of Shrublands including samphire, saltbush, coastal cushion bush and coastal bearded-heath. Cow Island on Magrath Flat Mapsheet 6726-02 bound by coast.
Objectives
Vegetation: The aim of this survey is to collect data on the vegetation associations of Cow Island, which is suitable for use in the revegetation of Hack Point.
         Fauna: N/A
Methodology
Vegetation: Vegetation documented with complete species list of plant speices within a 30 x 30 metre quadrat using Braun - Blanquet cover abundance scores, life form and reproductive stage. A Structural formation was recorded for each site. All plant species were vouchered the first time they were encountered, and identified by Rosemary Taplin of the State Herbarium. Physical data such as: slope, aspect, landform, surface soil texture and disturbances were collected. Vertebrate presence was also noted.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
