Survey/Project Name: Eyre Peninsula Malleefowl Questionnaire
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a postal survey during 1999 by Greencorp and Department for Environment and Heritage (Biological Survey and Monitoring Section), to gather information about Malleefowl (Leipoa ocellata) and Common Brushtail Possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) distribution on private land, on the agricultural-portion of Eyre Peninsula, South Australia. METHODOLOGY: Landowners who owned large (>10 hectare) blocks of native vegetation were identified and sent a questionnaire, which was primarily intended to clarify issues relating to historical and present Malleefowl and Brushtail Possum distribution and abundance. Results: 749 surveys were sent. 244 responses were received ( 33%). 57 respondees reported malleefowl on property (23%). Malleefowl seen on property within the last 12 months 8 landholders (3%). 12 respondees reported BT Possums on their property (5%). Malleefowl records and Brush-tailed Possum records were entered in the database. Many dates were historical or generalised.

Study Area Description: Survey forms were posted to all freehold landholders (non-residential) on Eyre Peninsula. All of Eyre Peninsula north to the extent of Freehold land.
