Survey/Project Name: Riparian Zone Management in Sturt Gorge
Abstract: Restoration of native plant communities along 3 km of riparian zone of Sturt River. Removal of elm, ash, olive and boxthorn to promote regeneration of native plants under more natural light regimes. Follow-up spraying to reduce weed competition with emerging native plants. Emphasis on 10 m each side of the river. Monitoring is desirable to determine kill rate and level of natural regeneration, so as to decide whether to let regrowth occur naturally or plant tubestock . Some eyeball evaluations of responses so far have been made. Simple photopoint system intended for monitoring. 3 km of Sturt River length treated, but photopoints may only cover sections of creek.

Start Date: 01/01/1999      End Date: 01/01/2025

Objectives
Vegetation: Improving water quality in streams is objective of Patawolonga Catchment Plan. Funds from the Catchment Board obtained to initially remove exotic and later to spray regrowth.
