Survey/Project Name: Land Condition Index Assessment of Flinders Ranges NP & Gammon Ranges NP
Abstract: As part of the Pastoral Lease Assessment program, the Flinders Ranges National Park (FRNP) and Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park (VGRNP) were assessed for land condition with establishment of photopoints and application of a restricted random sample of 100 photo sites which were rated for disturbance levels against a set criteria of vegetation pasture components and extent of herbivore impact. Assessments were conducted in 1997 and 1999 on the Flinders Ranges National Park and reported on trends which compared disturbance levels to neighbouring pastoral leases sharing similar vegetation attributes. The Gammon Ranges was assessed during 1999 by private consultant and together with the Flinders Ranges National Park and was re assessed during September 2002 to provide some trend analysis for both parks. Further assessments were conducted on the FRNP in 2008 and VGRNP in 2010. Detailed transect notes/GPS locality and slide photographs are taken at each site for verification of ratings. Analysis includes a discussion of the scores compared to like pastoral leases and a breakdown of individual pasture component scores.
