BDBSA Project Metadata Detail

Survey/Project Number: 31          Total No. of Sites: 71
Survey/Project Name: Mid-North and Western Murray Flats
Abstract: This project aims to determine the conservation significance of the Mid North and Western Murray Flats areas, near Adelaide, South Australia. Survey was held in 1980. AIMS: 1. Describe botanical composition and structure; 2. Assess the conditions (grazing, weed invasion etc.); 3. Evaluate scientific significance; 4. Recommend conservation priorities.

Start Date: 11/02/1980      End Date: 02/04/1980
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: East of Port Augusta, south through Mid North to Lakes region at Murray mouth, excluding Mt Lofty Ranges (covered in survey 32).\ SE corner is 35*30'00" 139*30'00" and NW corner is 32*30'00" 138*00'00"
Objectives
Vegetation: Determining conservation significance: 1. Describe botanical composition and structure. 2. Assess the conditions (grazing, weed invasion etc). 3. Evaluate scientific significance. 4. Recommend conservation priorities.
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: Sampling points located along a transect at 20-40m intervals depending on vegetation density, about 20 points/transect but depended on area size (at least 10 points). Strata were identified and the following variables were measured for tree and shrub strata in each of 4 quadrats around a sampling point. 1. Distance form sampling point to midpoint of nearest plant in each strata. 2. Height 3. Cover. Undershrub layer and abundances were recorded in quadrats of 1m radius at each sampling point along transect.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded
