Survey/Project Name: Stick-Nest Rat Reintroduction and Monitoring on Reevesby Island
Abstract: Captive bred Stick-Nest rats were released on Reevesby Island between 1991 and 1992 and monitored for distribution, survival and breeding status using radio transmitters , trapping and spotlighting. Reevesby Island was declared free of introduced predators in March 1990 and formerly supported populations of stick-nest rats. 101 animals originally of Franklin Island blood line were randomly placed on the island as a foundation population which doubled by the end of 1991. The program also highlighted key aspects of management and design that facilitate reintroductions of animals including the pre release handling and examination of individuals and mode of transportation. Best practice assessment of survey and monitoring techniques aligned with the data collection was developed for future reintroduction programs. A subsequent release of additional captive bred animals occurred on St Peters Island in 1993. REFERENCE: Copley P.B. Pedler L. Start Date: 24/09/1990      End Date: 07/09/2018
Survey Type: Fauna only

Study Area Description: *** No study area description recorded
Objectives
Vegetation: *** No vegetation survey objectives recorded
Fauna: Initially captures based on distance and direction from the site of release, then later based on 700 x 300 metre grid with 100 metres intervals, captures outside the grid located by distance and direction from known land mark Capture locations relative to release sites to determine home ranges of individual animals. Animal locations plotted on grid network to track movements and home range, habitat requirements, physical attributes and reproductive status to determine population dynamics.
Methodology
Vegetation: *** No vegetation methodology recorded
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
Project Basis: Fauna : Fauna reintroduction or plant translocation/revegetation program.
Fauna : Fauna species/population Study (ie trapping records over time period for species study). NOTE:NON Std Svy methodology may have been used.
