Survey/Project Number: 353          Total No. of Sites: 0
Survey/Project Name: Wandillo NFR Post-fire Southern Brown Bandicoot Digging Abundance Monitoring
Abstract: This project aims to establish if Southern Brown Bandicoots survived after the February 2000 fire in Wandillo Fire Reserve. David Paull's walking transect methodology (diggings) is used to assess bandicoot population abundance. This involves walking an established loop of 100-150 metres and counting the diggings and allocating an age class (fresh, recent, old) to the digging. Approximately 12 sites (transects) were assessed in areas that were known to be good historic bandicoot habitats. The first survey was conducted in Mid-2000 and it is hoped that the area can be revisited every 6-12 months, at any time of year.
