Survey/Project Number: 379          Total No. of Sites: 121
Survey/Project Name: Population monitoring of threatened flora species in the South East
Abstract: Via threatened flora population monitoring, this project aims to reduce immediate threats to threatened flora species, and understand their ecology to better manage them. Management Plans can be created or adapted to reflect new information, and sites that need more detailed monitoring can be identified and efforts can be focussed where needed the most. This may include protection and restoration or revegetation. It is preferable that the populations can be sustained with minimal tampering. Where revegetation does occur, these plants are not included in future population counts. Data is collected (began in 2003) from known populations in the South East (usually annual recounts in Spring) or when new populations are discovered. The populations are spatially recorded as individuals or as a group, especially where there is a high density of plants - the method is generally to plot the plants from a centrepoint. Other attributes may also be assessed such as plant size and health, grazing pressure, recruitment, total counts, proportion of seedlings.

Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: *** No study area description recorded
Objectives
Vegetation: The species inially being focussed on in the current project are: Prostanthera eurybioides - Nationally endangered - EPBC listed - 60% of entire species are in the Southeast Acacia enterocarpa - Nationally endangered, - EPBC listed - 160 plants in the southeast (not a major site for their conservation) - six sites, with two populations that are not on the Plant Population Database yet. Olearia pannosa ssp. pannosa - Nationally endangered, - EPBC listed - known from 10 populations - not many of them entered on to the Plant Population Database, but there are some records on the Survey and Opportune Databases - would be better on PPDB though. - there is lots of work to be done collecting information Acacia glandulosa - other contact = Martin O'Leary - 4 plants in the southeast (2 sites, 2 plants each). - not currently on the database. - The herbarium currently don't have a voucher specimen. There will be more species looked at, but it has not been yet decided what they will be. It is likely the poject will focus on another two species selected out of about four possibilities.
