Survey/Project Name: Emu Monitoring - Flinders Ranges NP and Vilkathunha/Gammon Ranges NP
Abstract: Vehicle based surveys of emus have been conducted in Flinders Ranges National Park and Vulkathunha - Gammon Ranges National Park and adjacent pastoral properties as a potential indicator of the impact of a reduction in fox predation following a broadscale baiting program. Five transects have been established on Flinders Ranges National Park, Vulkathunha - Gammon Ranges National Park and adjacent pastoral properties to monitor emus at 3 monthly intervals. Transects include both baited and unbaited areas. The number of emus sighted and distance along the transect at which they occur is recorded on each transect. The age class and group size of emus are also recorded. Raptors are also recorded on transects if and when sighted. Frequency of monitoring is quarterly (2000-2004). Data collection has ceased for 2005 to allow time for data analysis.
