Survey/Project Name: Kangaroo Ground Survey Monitoring Program - Bounceback
Abstract: Results of walking transect surveys to monitor kangaroo densities in key areas of Flinders Ranges National Park and Plains Block section of Vulkathunha Gammon Ranges National Park and adjacent pastoral properties. Raw data is entered in to a spreadsheet that is then manipulated to enable the data to be entered to the 'Distance' software program that uses various models to calculate density estimates based on line transect methodology. Data is used to monitor the density of kangaroos in areas where culling of Euros has occured since 1999. Data also used by Kangaroo Ecologist (Abundant Species Unit) to provide information for the Commercial Harvest Quota as these areas are not covered by the statewide aerial kangaroo survey. Transects walked are in Flinders Ranges National Park, Vulkathunha Gammon Ranges National Park and adjacent pastoral properties. Transects conducted in Pantapinna, Mt Sunderland sections of the park (Euro culling program currently in place) and Gum Creek and Upalinna Pastoral Leases. Annual monitoring program which is ongoing.
