Survey/Project Name: Predator Monitoring Control Program - Central Flinders Ranges NP
Abstract: Results of vehicle based spotlight counts to monitor predator numbers. Programs are conducted at regular intervals in areas subject to various levels of fox control. 'Baited' area receives intensive baiting 4 times per year using dried meat baits (ground based and aerial delivery); 'Unbaited' close includes pastoral properties immediately adjacent to the baited area and ;Unbaited Distant' includes pastoral properties approximately 50 km south - west of Hawker. Program is conducted in conjunction with members of the Hunting and Conservation Branch of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia and involves shooting predators where possible. Information is collected on sex, age and body mass of predators shot. Data collected from Flinders Ranges National Park and pastoral properties immediately adjacent and approximatley 50 km south - west of Hawker. 'Unbaited' areas have been subject to twice yearly targeted dog baiting by landholders as part of the SAAL NRM Biteback program from 2010 to present time. Frequency of monitoring is variable 1992 - 1997, every 2 months from 1998 - 1999 and quarterly from 2000 - present.
