Survey/Project Name: ADELAIDE CITY PARKLANDS BIRD TRANSECTS (1974-2007) Bob Whatmough
Abstract: A monthly bird count survey has been conducted in The Adelaide City Parklands including the Torrens Valley since 1974. This area was divided into six divisions namely: North, South, East, West, River and Valley. Monthly bird counts for each of the 6 transects have been conducted from August 1974 to January 2007 (and are continuing). Counts were conducted by walking all 6 transects over a two day period (usually chosen in the first two weeks of the calendar month). There was no time constraint on the length of a visit, but the time spent in each transect was usually between 80 and 120 minutes. The time of day varied from visit to visit, most visits being made in the afternoon and not at the most favourable times for detecting birds. For all species sighted (or positively identified from calls) within the Park Land division, the minimum number of individuals was estimated and recorded along with any other information considered worthy of note.
