Abstract: |
Under the Biological Survey of South Australia there is a program to complete the survey and mapping of the native vegetation within the state. This includes both existing native vegetation cover and pre-European vegetation mapping. As part of this program native vegetation survey and field checking (ground truthing) are required to provide data to assist with mapping the native vegetation cover, floristic and structural composition. The regions to be studied for existing vegetation are the Far West Eyre Peninsula, Gawler Craton and Sandy Deserts (Maralinga Lands) areas. The regions to be covered under the pre-European settlement vegetation mapping are Yorke Peninsula, Midnorth (including Lower Flinders, Mt Lofty Ranges and northern Eyre Peninsula. Some work may also be undertaken in the other areas of the state as required to assist with the overall program to complete the state's native vegetation survey and mapping. These regional projects will involve field checking (ground truthing) for site selection and mapping purposes, native vegetation survey (including specimen collection), analysis of the vegetation survey results, image analysis and classification or digitising, and report writing. Survey conducted between March/April 2011. |
