| Abstract: | The project (2010-2023) aimed at identifying key areas or hotspots for threatened mallee bird species within the Bookmark mallee region. The surveys focus on Striated Grass-wrens and Red-Lored Whistlers as historic records and fire history indicated that these species were limited in habitat but were highly susceptible to fire. Call-playback were used as necessary to detect the species within an area. Once surveys are completed targeting key sites of known suitable habitat, survey results along with recent historical data are used to outline key significant hot spot areas to become priority protection sites for these species. |

| Fauna: | Surveys were carried out based on sites of historical records and known and located potential habitat for both species. Call playback was utilised as necessary for a maximum of three minutes, to detect the species within any one area. Records were then GPS'd and habitat characteristics recorded. | ||
