Survey/Project Name: Lot 23 - Morialta CP land addition
Abstract: During 2008 DEH embarked on a compulsory acquisition process for land adjacent to the Morialta Conservation Park, which led to the purchase of Allotment 23 and associated easements on 29 June 2009. The 15 hectare parcel had been of interest to DEH as a potential acquisition for management purposes and for its long term conservation value, for more than a decade. Addition of the land to the Park will allow for the inclusion of a currently excluded section of Fourth Creek which the Park's main watercourse and has provided opportunities to improve the management of the riparian zone, develop walking trail access with improved gradients to one of the main lookouts in the Park and improve capacity for fire suppression and prevention. As an in-kind contribution towards the project, the Better Regions Project Team conducted an opportune vegetation survey (June 2010) that outlines potential management strategies and identifies the diversity of native vegetation versus weed infestation.
