Survey/Project Name: | Plant responses to fire in semi-arid mallee across a rainfall gradient -Gibson |
Abstract: | The project began in September 2009 and was conducted in Eyre Peninsula, Murraylands and Far West region reserves. The major objective of the project is to determine whether moisture availability drives plant responses to fire in semi-arid mallee communities. To achieve this, we aim to examine plant response variables such as survival, growth and reproductive effort, within the context of the environmental variables of fire characteristics (including a range of fire histories), landscape attributes and rainfall. Sites will be chosen within high (>300mm), medium (>200mm) and low (<200mm) average annual rainfall areas to quantify how plant responses vary across the rainfall gradient. |
