Survey/Project Number: 84          Total No. of Sites: 185
Survey/Project Name: South-East Box and Buloke Grassy Woodlands
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a biological survey of remnant Grey Box and Bull Oak (buloke) vegetation in the Upper South East, South Australia, in December 1995. VEGETATION ASSOCIATIONS: 1. Bull Oak (Allocasuarina luehmannii) grassy woodland; 2. Grey Box (Eucalyptus microcarpa) grassy woodland; 3. Peppermint Box (E. odorata) grassy woodland; 4. Black Box (E. largiflorens) grassy woodland; 5. Broad-leaf Box (E. behriana) +/- White Mallee (E. dumosa) +/- Peppermint Box (E. odorata) open scrub; 6. Associated native grasslands. All of these associations are of high conservation value in South Australia. Flora was surveyed at 48 sites, and fauna was surveyed at 18 of these. Start Date: 02/03/1994      End Date: 18/12/1995
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: SOUTH-EAST
Objectives
Vegetation: To plan and carry out a biological survey in December 1995 of selected remnants of the target vegetation. To provide the State Herbarium with properly documented voucher specimens of the vascular plants collected during the survey. To upgrade the mapping of the target vegetation already conducted by the Geographical Analysis and Research Unit of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. To assess the conservation value of important remnants in relation to flora, fauna and plant communities.
Fauna: To plan and carry out a biological survey in December 1995 of selected remnants of the target vegetation. To provide the South Australian Museum with a set of properly documented voucher specimens of the reptiles and small mammals collected during the survey. To assess the conservation value of important remnants in relation to flora, fauna and plant communities.
Methodology
Vegetation: Complete list of plant species within a 30 x 30m quadrat using Braun/Blanquet cover abundance scores (R,T,1,2,3,4,5). Data was also collected in each quadrat on landform elements, slope, aspect, surface strew, surface soil texture, vertebrate presence and impact. Overstorey measurements were estimated for 5 individuals, representative of the community sampled. If the vegetation type occurred along a linear feature, such as a roadside or railway reserve, the quadrat size may have been altered; eg to 90X10m.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded
