BDBSA Project Metadata Detail

Survey/Project Number: 9          Total No. of Sites: 56
Survey/Project Name: Danggali
Abstract: This project aims to survey sites in the Danggali Conservation Park, north of Renmark, South Australia, that are representative of the major vegetation types, expand the mallee community database and document changes in the communities after disturbance; and to improve ecological understanding of arid and semi-arid communities.

Start Date: 30/04/1986      End Date: 05/05/1993
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: Danggali Conservation Park - undulating calcrete plain with superimposed low sand dunes and alluvial flats with low clay pans. Mallee over shrubs or Triodia associated with dunes and low black oak woodland and chenopod shrubs on plains. Danggali is on the semi-arid / arid zone boundary with unpredictable rainfall. Area of 253,230ha, 70km North of Renmark along NSW border.
Objectives
Vegetation: 1. To survey sites representative of the major vegetation types. 2. To expand the mallee community data base and document changes in the communities after disturbance. 3. To improve ecological understanding of arid and semi-arid communities and identify future
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: See Salisbury annual reports. Methodology very loosely based on the Biological Survey methods but mostly in much more detail and of varying quality. Methods sometimes changed/adapted each year. Note that quality is very variable and dubious in many places, being 2nd year student data. Data is not very compatible with normal Biological Survey data, so only the basics can be used and care should be taken in using it with other data for analysis.
Fauna: See Salisbury reports Birds - transects across whole quadrat (1 x 1km) Mammals and Reptiles - 2 long pitfalls and Elliott lines per quadrat and active searching. Bats - trapped and netted Insects collected.

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
Project Basis: Vegetation : Baseline Survey of flora and/or fauna - Standard Biol Survey of SA survey methodology not used.
Fauna : Biological Survey of South Australia - Standard Survey methodology used.
