Survey/Project Number: 1009          Total No. of Sites: 226
Survey/Project Name: Tallaringa Conservation Park co-management Biological Survey
Abstract: This project aims to develop a Healthy Country Plan for Tallaringa Conservation Park (CP) to serve as the management plan for Tallaringa CP. Natural Resources Alinytjara Wilurara (NRAW) is working with and supporting the Tallaringa Advisory Committee, Traditional Owners of Tallaringa Conservation Park and members of Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (AMYAC). OBJECTIVES: As part of its support to develop a Healthy Country Plan for Tallaringa CP, NRAW is undertaking biological surveys of Tallaringa CP. Surveys will be run in-conjunction with on-country workshops to develop the Healthy Country Plan, and will actively involve Traditional Owners of the area. AIMS: 1. The primary aim of the project(s) is to complement on-country Healthy Country Planning (HCP) workshops by providing material to stimulate discussion on the natural (and cultural) values of Tallaringa CP, to inform planning and future management of the park. 2. Work with and support Tallaringa Advisory Committee and AMYAC members to participate involvement in the surveys 3. Add contemporary records to existing historic flora and fauna records, most of which were recorded over 25 years ago 4. Establish up to 20 fauna and flora sampling sites, wherever possible in locations where no previous fauna sampling sites have been established. 5. Participate in workshop planning and discussions, as appropriate. Scope of Survey 6. Undertake biological surveys complementary to on-country workshops as part of development of a Healthy Country Plan for Tallaringa CP. Two trips to Tallaringa Conservation Park are intended, in May and September 2015. 7. It is anticipated each survey will involve approximately six days in the field, plus travel. 8. Survey methods will be designed to complement HCP and supplement discussion on natural values of the area as well as add valuable contemporary data to a little-surveyed region of South Australia 9. Survey coordinators and biologists will work closely with members of Tallaringa Advisory Committee, Traditional Owners of Tallaringa CP and surrounding lands, as well as other members of AMYAC, District Council of Coober Pedy and other stakeholders.

Start Date: 01/09/2014      End Date: 31/12/2015
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: Tallaringa Conservation Park
Objectives
         Vegetation: Refer to Abstract.
         Fauna: Refer to Abstract.
Methodology
Vegetation: The exact locations of sites for survey will be selected prior to field trips following discussions with Traditional Owners (TOs). Trips will either follow storylines or be site-based and supplemented by excursions at the discretion of TOs, or a combination of both. Survey methods will be determined in consultation with Tallaringa Advisory Committee, Coober Pedy Council NRM staff, Healthy Country Planning facilitator, NRAW Landscape Ecologist, NRAW Fire Management and Planning Officer, and other NRAW staff (as required), but include the following: 1. Ground truthing of existing vegetation mapping; 2. Fauna trapping using pitfall and Elliott traps; 3. Resampling of some previously established flora sites; 4. Opportunistic flora and fauna sampling; 5. Assessment of current weed species present; 6. Relocating and resampling 29 photopoints; 7. Where possible, record knowledge of use, and importance of, natural values relayed by Traditional Owners.
