Survey/Project Number: 121          Total No. of Sites: 57
Survey/Project Name: Brush-Cutting Monitoring
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a biological survey of the distribution of Broombrush (Melaleuca uncinata) in three regions of South Australia: 1. Kangaroo Island; 2. Murray Mallee; 3. Eyre Peninsula. AIMS: 1. Measure density of M. uncinata communities; 2. Identify species associated with M. uncinata; 3. Estimate rate of regrowth of harvested M. uncinata; 4. Estimate yield of M. uncinata communities for domestic brush fences; 5. Map extent of M. uncinata communities in north-eastern Eyre Peninsula.

Start Date: 19/04/1993      End Date: 15/12/1993
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: The study involved three regions within SA - Kangaroo Island, Murray Mallee and Eyre Peninsula. Within these regions the study boundaries were based on the distribution of brush (M. uncinata). Eyre Peninsula: North East of region East of 136 degrees 0 longitude, to coast in east, to margin of agricultural land in north, 34 degrees 0 latitude in the south plus mapsheet 6030-04 in west. Kangaroo Island: isolated areas of brush along north coast, Macgillivray Plateau and Dudley Peninsula. Murray Mallee: east of 140 degrees 30 minutes north of Ngarkat Conservation Park and Scorpion Springs CP, West of Victorian border and south of 35 degrees 15 minutes latitude. The sites were located on the following 1: 50 000 mapsheets: Murdinga 6030-04, Kielpa 6130-04, Carappee 6131-02, Mangalo 6230-04, Stokes Bay 6326-04, Penneshaw 6426-04, Willoughby 6526-03, Prinpun Bore 7027-01, Pinaroo 7027-02, Lameroo 7027-03, Karte 7027-04 and Kumara 7028-03
Objectives
Vegetation: 1. To measure density of Melaleuca uncinata (broombush) communities. 2. To identify species associated with M. uncinata 3. To estimate rate of regrowth of harvested M. uncinata 4. To estimate yield of M. uncinata communities for brush fences 5. To map extent of M. uncinata communities in North Eastern Eyre Peninsula
         Fauna: N/A
Methodology
Vegetation: Complete list of plant species per 20 X 10m quadrat using Braun/Blanquet cover abundance scores. No vouchered specimens. Specimens checked with P Lang but not properly vouchered and lodged. No soil recorded. No cover abundance for vouchered specimens recorded.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
Project Basis: Vegetation : Monitoring - Vegetation/Ecosystem (ie species records - usually re-visited for ongoing monitoring) NOTE:NON Std Svy methodology may have been used.
