Survey/Project Number: 264          Total No. of Sites: 0
Survey/Project Name: Broom Burn at Belair National Park
Abstract: Broom burn at Belair National Park in 1998. Trials were conducted previously to evaluate fire as a method of controlling broom. Once-off, but systematic measurements taken and effects documented, allowing some repeat observations in the post-fire period. The burn site is potentially useful inclusion in vegetation monitoring program.

Start Date: 01/04/1998      End Date: 30/04/1998
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: *** No study area description recorded
Objectives
Vegetation: Initial burn trials undertaken as part of PhD Thesis by Janine Lloyd, investigating use of fire to control broom. Studies focussed on destruction of existing broom plants and influence of burn temperature in destroying seed. Burn sites delineated and burns controlled, with sensors measuring soil surface temperature during burns. Photos taken before and after burns. Examining the burn sites to identify the native species that have appeared in them, would be the basis of later monitoring, likely to be conducted annually with use of photopoints.
