Survey/Project Name: Chowilla Vegetation Exclosures Monitoring Study (Coombool Paddock)
Abstract: Herbivore exclosures were set up on Chowilla Pastoral Lease in 1986 to determine the effects of grazing and grazing suppression on populations of Atriplex stipitata. This species dominates a commonly found land system and is seldom grazed by stock unless other palatable species have been removed through unsustainable grazing . Two fenced treatments (exclude all herbivores and a Rabbit Entry only) and a control were spatially mapped for mature and seedling shrubs. Step-point plant cover measurements were also taken within the treatments along with photographs and shrub dimension data. Chowilla lease has been reverted to regional reserve status. Studies were jointly organised between the Dept. of Lands Outback Region & Salisbury College of Advanced Education.
