BDBSA Project Metadata Detail

Survey/Project Number: 355          Total No. of Sites: 11556
Survey/Project Name: Forestry SA Flora and Fauna records Specific to Reserves, not captured by DEH
Abstract: This project aims to obtain information regarding presence and abundance of flora and fauna species in ForestrySA Native Forest Reserves, Conservation Zones, and Forest Reserves in South East, Mt Lofty Ranges and Southern Flinders Ranges of South Australia. Knowledge gained will contribute to Native Forest Reserve Management Plans and implications for reserve management. The Biological data will be added to the states Natural Resource Databases. Some indication as to the Distribution and Abundance by Vegetation association, and Fire History will be investigated. Data includes all SE forestry data collected from a range of sources and projects, including data collected pre-2000.This includes mammal trapping data 2004 - 2010 - all specimens caught will be released at the site of capture unless required as a voucher specimen as directed by the Curators at the South Australian Museum. In the case of nest boxes, they will be disturbed minimally. Data from Adelaide and Mt Lofty Ranges mainly includes ramble surveys from Forestry SA reserves. Before load into BDBSA any obvious records from sources already in BDBSA were removed. Users should note that some duplicates may still be present.

Start Date: 01/01/1900      End Date: 01/07/2025
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: Forestry Reserves in South East, Mt Lofty Ranges and Flinders Ranges
Objectives
Vegetation: *** No vegetation survey objectives recorded
Fauna: Survey 355 contains a wide variety of data collection methods from a variety of sources and dates. Provided in Forestry SA dataset from Troy Horn, 2021. Some records relate to SCIENTIFIC PERMIT Z24671 AND ANIMAL ETHICS APPROVAL 13/2003. A General Trapping and Monitoring Permit for ForestrySA, under direction by Troy Horn ph/ 8724 2788, Project Officer, Community Forestry. ForestySA staff: Trevor Wynniat ph/ 8524 2876 Senior Ranger, Green Triangle Region. Andrew Moylan ph/ 8291 5416 Ranger, Green Triangle Region, Volunteer Coordinator. Troy Horn Animals will be captured using Elliot Traps, Sherman Traps, Cage Traps, Nest Boxes and Pitfall Traps. Traps will be checked morning and night in mild weather, and more in hot weather. Relevant statistics will be recorded and the animal will be released. Nestboxes will be monitored around 4 times per year. Nestboxes have a flip top or slide top lid. Some (with larger holes) may be monitored using a nest box camera. Disturbance to the animals will be at a minimum. Some brief moving of animals such as sugar gliders may be required to get an accurate count where multiple individuals house the same nest. The analysis of the Distribution and Abundance of the populations of animals in Native Forest Reserves will be used to determine how Native Forest Reserves will be managed. Some indication as to the Distribution and Abundance by Vegetation association, and Fire History will be investigated All specimens caught will be released at the site of capture unless required as a voucher specimen as directed by the Curators at the South Australian Museum. Trap deaths or road kills encountered during the survey are to offered to the South Australian Museum. In the case of nest boxes, they will be disturbed minimally
