Survey/Project Number: 363          Total No. of Sites: 11
Survey/Project Name: Silky Tea tree ecosytem monitoring
Abstract: Flow on from NCS program annual monitoring since 2000 in March or April, vegetation data collected at 5 sites (South East) and include, bird surveys, mammal and reptile elliott trapping, pitfalls, invertebrate micropits, and opportunistic sightings of butterflies. 6 elements of survey, complicated data set. Areas fenced off - landowners provided fencing. 5 photopoints set up at Lake St Clair locality including the Conservation Park (control), McCourt, Spring Hill & Canunda Heights private land holdings. These sites cover photopoint, vegetation, vertebrate and invertebrate. This project involved the creation of a summary of the Silky Tea Tree habitat. The project aims to establish 5-6 monitoring sites (flora and fauna) in a sample of protected wetlands to monitor their ecological rehabilitation. This will involve collecting vegetation samples and trapping for ground-dwelling vertebrates and invertebrates. Methods used will involve vegetation and bird transects and quadrats, plus pitfall and Elliott trapping for ground-dwelling fauna. Twenty pits (no fences) and 100 Elliotts will be used per site.

Start Date: 01/01/2000      End Date: 01/03/2005
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: *** No study area description recorded
Objectives
Vegetation: *** No vegetation survey objectives recorded
Fauna: Elliot Traps and Pitfall Trap lines are placed through the habitat being monitored. The traps are checked twice daily, and captured animals identified, weighed, measured etc. - before being released at the site of capture. In some cases an animal may require confirmation of its identity. In such circumstances the animal is quickly and humanely euthanased, to be submitted to the Museum as a voucher specimen. Trapping design different to BSM SURVEY methodology, invertebrate data to SA Museum ( 2 - 3 year collections), summary reports.
Methodology
Vegetation: *** No vegetation methodology recorded
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
Project Basis: Vegetation : Monitoring - Vegetation/Ecosystem (ie species records - usually re-visited for ongoing monitoring) NOTE:NON Std Svy methodology may have been used.
Fauna : Fauna species/population Study (ie trapping records over time period for species study). NOTE:NON Std Svy methodology may have been used.
