Survey/Project Name: Biological Assessment of South Australian mound springs (SEA 1986)
Abstract: A landmark survey of Great Artesian Basin (mound) Springs conducted on behalf of DEP by consultants Social and Ecological Assessment (SEA). Study area extends along the southern and western edge of the South Australia Great Artesian Basin from Lake Frome in an arc up to Dalhousie. Data collected at a spring group level. Publication available titled 'Heritage of the Mound Springs', DEP, 1986. The studies are arranged in four parts as follows: 1) Biological Assessment, 2) Aboriginal Archaeological Assessment, 3) Aboriginal Cultural Assessment and 4) European Settlement Assessment. The volume is supplemented by two seperate volumes which contain field data on the Biological and European assessments. This study included a review of existing literature and some new field work to fill some gaps. Field work was carried out in January 1984 to the eastern springs bordering the Flinders Ranges and another in March 1984 to the springs between Maree and Oodnadatta. A total of 24 spring groups were vistied during the two field trips.
