Abstract: |
This project aims to conduct a biological survey, in 1992, to classify and map the floristic composition and structure of vegetation groups from the Southern Flinders Ranges to the lower Mid North regions, South Australia, and to identify the remaining forest (fitting the structural definition of forest) for the National Forest Inventory. |

Study Area Description: |
Study area ranges from high mountain ranges, ridges and plains in the Southern Flinders to undulating hills and lower ranges in the lower Midnorth. Rainfall for the region averages approximately 350mm per year being significantly higher in the northern ranges (580mm). The region's variable soil and rainfall patterns influence a range of vegetation patterns. The southern region comprises mainly Eucalyptus woodlands with tussock grasslands further to the northeast and Eucalyptus woodlands/forests on the northern ranges to shrublands (including chenopod shrublands) in the northern plains.

1:50 000 mapsheets were added to the existing study boundary to include sites which were located outside of defined spatial boundary (Nov 2000). |
