Abstract: |
This project aims to conduct a biological survey to examine the Stirling District Council area, near Adelaide, South Australia, in 1993.
AIMS:
1. Locate and map the remaining indigenous roadside vegetation;
2. Assess the condition of remnant vegetation on both roadside verges and other council reserves;
3. Identify areas of high conservation significance;
4. Identify management issues associated with the long-term conservation of remnant vegetation.

Study Area Description: |
District Council of Stirling - includes high rainfall areas of Mt Lofty District (1100mm per year); ranging from steep escarpments in the northwest section of Crafers to undulating hills towards Mylor and Hahndorf. Most of the Blue Gum/Manna Gum (Eucalyptus leucoxylon/Eucalyptus viminalis) woodlands have been cleared for agriculture. Most of the remnant vegetation exists as Messmate stringybark Eucalyptus obliqua or mixed Eucalyptus obliqua/Eucalyptus baxteri. Open forest with areas of cup gum, Eucalyptus cosmophylla, pink gum, Eucalyptus fasciculosa and candlebark, Eucalyptus rubida.
