BDBSA Project Metadata Detail

Survey/Project Number: 605          Total No. of Sites: 467
Survey/Project Name: Finke IBRA Region Survey
Abstract: The main aim of this survey conducted in May 2008, was to collect data on the vegetation communities of the Finke IBRA Region to enable the classification & mapping of the floristic composition and structure of the vegetation groups of the area. The main area was within the Finke IBRA Region of South Australia and encompassing Pastoral leases of Tieyon, Ayers Range South and DeRose Hill. The dominant overstorey and understorey species were recorded at each site and all species that had a cover abundance of "1" or greater using Braun-Blanquet cover abundance scores. Site data was also collected using a PDA with Cybertracker software.

Start Date: 19/05/2008      End Date: 27/05/2008
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: The main area was within the Finke IBRA Region of SA and encompassing Pastoral leases of Tieyon, Ayers Range South and DeRose Hill.
Objectives
Vegetation: The main aim of this survey was to collect data on the vegetation communities of the Finke IBRA Region to enable the classification & mapping of the floristic composition and structure of the vegetation groups of the area.
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: The dominant overstorey and understorey species were recorded at each site and all species that had a cover abundance of "1" or greater using Braun-Blanquet cover abundance scores. Lifeform and reproductive stage was also recorded. Each site was assigned a structural formation. All species were vouchered the first time they were encountered and lodged with the State Herbarium. Physical data such as slope, aspect, landform elements and patterns were collected, but no soil samples were recorded. A site photo was also taken. Site data was also collected using a PDA with Cybertracker software. This data was electronically loaded into BDBSA as opportune records.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
Project Basis: Vegetation : Vegetation Mapping. Standard BSSA methodology used.
