Survey/Project Number: 7          Total No. of Sites: 0
Survey/Project Name: Mallee (A.Sparrow)
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a phytosociological study of all agricultural districts in South Australia. REFERENCE: Sparrow, A.D., 1991, A Geographical Study of the Remnant Natural Vegetation of Temperate South Australia, The University of Adelaide. Adelaide.

Start Date: 01/01/1985      End Date: 01/01/1992
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: The entire agricultural districts of South Australia 1. Complex landforms, geology and soils. 2. Rainfall 200-1200mm pa. 3. Vegetation from chenopod to wet sclerophyll forests. Area south of 230mm rainfall isohyet (except North Flinders and Gammon Ranges), north of coast and west of Victorian border, in the agricultural region.
Objectives
Vegetation: A phytosociological study of South Australia: 1. To undertake a floristic survey with constant sampling density such that all parts of the study area are equally and well represented. 2. To appraise the use of recently-developed techniques for floristic analysis to Australian temperate / semi-arid sclerophyllous vegetation. 3. To produce a framework floristic classification for the study area, with emphasis on mallee vegetation. 4. To examine the patterns of vegetation types and the distribution of dominant species in relation to important environmental gradients as possible causal factors. 5. To assess the value of floristic survey and numerical analysis for development and implementation of vegetation conservation strategies.
