Survey/Project Name: Para Woodlands Restoration Project
Abstract: The Para Woodlands restoration project aims to restore approximately 400 hectares of degraded farmland to a grassy woodland ecosystem. Located near Gawler, Para Woodlands also includes a section of the South Para River. In order to determine and prioritise restoration actions, further knowledge is required on both remnant and introduced plant species across the property. The project activities range from revegetation in the most degraded areas through to bushcare work within areas containing remnant vegetation. This project aims to restore important grassy woodland habitat for threatened bird species of the Mt Lofty Ranges. The project began in 2010 and is ongoing.

Start Date: 01/09/2008      End Date: 01/01/2025
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: Para Woodlands Reserve
Objectives
         Vegetation: Refer to Abstract.
         Fauna: Refer to Abstract.
Methodology
Vegetation: Para Woodlands has been divided into Management and sub-Management Units to assist with restoration work. Each area will be randomly surveyed for plant species, with photos taken and herbarium specimens collected where appropriate and lodged at the Herbarium. This will enable plant species lists to be developed and updated for each sub-Management Unit over time. This work will therefore be ongoing, as more observations are made over time. Opportune records on vertebrates will also be added as it is collected. Herbarium specimens - lodged with Herbarium as collected, with copies forming a Para woodlands herbarium located at Black Hill, BCU, and possibly Para Wirra. Photos - still to be sorted, with Leanne Rosser (nee Pound), Black Hill, BCU
Fauna: Opportune records on vertebrates will also be added as it is collected. Yes, the opportune fauna work will include fish - I'm planning an initial baseline check for native species, using contractors who operate with their own permit (Michael Hammer and staff).
