Survey/Project Number: 8          Total No. of Sites: 68
Survey/Project Name: Forestry SA Community Employment Program (CEP) Flora
Abstract: Flora survey sites conducted in Mt Lofty Ranges and South East Forestry Reserves, funded by Commonwealth Employment Program. This survey was conducted in 1985, coordinated by botanists. Each survey site consisted of four 20 x 25 m plots, each sub-plot containing four sub-plots in which different vegetation layers were sampled (trees, shrubs > 2 m, shrubs 0.5 to 2 m and herbs, and ground layer < 0,5 m. The sub-plot size varied according to the vegetation layer sampled. For each species, the mean average height, density an crown coverage was calculated. For trees and tall shrubs, the total number of species present was recorded in 4 replicate sites. For small shrubs and ground cover, the frequency of occurrence and importance value (combination of frequency and cover) was calculated. For most sites, a high percentage of species were vouchered as Herbarium specimens. Only species presence has been entered in the BDBSA. DEW retains the raw data for the surveys, on hard copy data sheets.
