Survey/Project Name: | Bush For Life - long-term species records from bushcare sites |
Abstract: | Previous project name = Trees for Life MLR. This project number was originally established by Adelaide Region Bush Management Advisors due to the value of the BFL data to their projects. Bush For Life is a volunteer bushcare program run by Trees For Life. Starting in 1994, the program has expanded to cover over 300 sites owned predominantly by councils and private landholders, with a small number of corporate sites. Our aim is to engage and support community volunteers to look after bushland sites of high conservation value using proven bush regeneration technique and strategies. Volunteers may adopt a site to care for, or attend supervised activities. Trees For Life Field Officers train and support the volunteers to carry out their work. |

Methodology | |||
Vegetation: | A full flora species list is kept for every site. These lists are created at the time of site establishment, by Trees For Life staff, sometimes based on existing data provided by the site owner. Usually some effort will be spent to compile a reasonably complete list, by simply walking through the site, covering as much area as possible. Additional species may then be added over time, based on observations made by staff or volunteers during other site work. The program Florlist4 is used to create and maintain electronic species lists. The reference file is regularly updated from The Census of SA Plants, Algae and Fungi, to ensure up to date taxonomy. The bulk of the data associated with this project were submitted in 2020. Thereafter, annual updates will be submitted. Annual updates may include fauna observations in addition to flora. | ||
