Survey/Project Name: Reef fish and blue groper surveys in South Australia (2012-2013)
Abstract: Between 2002 to 2005 Reef Watch volunteers and marine scientists undertook a series of reef-fish surveys at sites around South Australia. The data was used to write a series of reports, and publish a scientific paper about Western Blue Groper. The objective of this project is to repeat a subset (about 30) of the original surveys, using Reef Watch volunteers, across five NRM regions using the same survey method.

Start Date: 01/09/2012      End Date: 30/09/2013
Survey Type: Fauna only

Study Area Description: Twenty five sites were surveyed in SA during 2013 within five regions Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Fleurieu Peninsula and the South East.
Objectives
Vegetation: *** No vegetation survey objectives recorded
         Fauna: Refer to Abstract.
Methodology
Vegetation: *** No vegetation methodology recorded
Fauna: Survey methods are included using either SCUBA or snorkel to collect data on size and abundance of WBG. While size and abundance data were collected on other fish species, the present report is concerned only with WBG. Size data on WBG were scored into three categories: juvenile <20 cm total length (TL); sub-adult 20-60 cm TL; and adult >60 cm TL (after Shepherd and Brook 2007).

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
