Survey/Project Name: Fossil bats of Naracoorte Caves
Abstract: This project aims to identify bat species present in the deposits from several caves within the Naracoorte Caves National Park, South Australia, including Robertson Cave (5U17 and 5U19), Wet Cave (5U10) and Cathedral Cave (5U12). To date, the Quaternary bat faunas of Naracoorte Caves remain unstudied.

         Fauna: Refer to Abstract.
Methodology
Vegetation: *** No vegetation methodology recorded
Fauna: Bat specimens from several late Quaternary deposits previously excavated from Naracoorte Caves will be taxonomically identified using dental characters and postcranial characters. SAMPLE COLLECTION: Specimens analysed in this study were collected under the following projects: BDBSA Project 1044: Late Quaternary fossil mammals from Wet Cave; BDBSA Project 1043: Late Quaternary fossil mammals from Robertson Cave; BDBSA Project 1047: Lessons of Past Climate Change - Robertson Cave; BDBSA Project 1039: Responses to Pleistocene Climate Change - Cathedral Cave. VERTEBRATE FOSSIL PREPARATION: Bat specimens from each of the collections were selected for analysis. No formal fossil preparation required. VERTEBRATE FOSSIL REGISTRATION: Bat specimens will be registered with the South Australian Museum.
