Survey/Project Number: 165          Total No. of Sites: 1619
Survey/Project Name: Murray River Wetland Baseline Rmcwmb (2004)
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a baseline survey of wetlands along the South Australian section of the River Murray. The survey was carried out between 2004 and 2008 to collect a snapshot of physical and biological data on a subset of wetlands in the River Murray from the SA border to the Lower Lakes. OBJECTIVE: Provide data that assists in understanding the baseline condition of individual wetlands to determine how they should be managed in the future.

Start Date: 01/09/2003      End Date: 31/12/2009
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: Flood plain of the River Murray and the Lower Lakes Region. Survey focussed on areas of floodplain subject to regular inundation and aquatic vegetation. SA River Murray wetlands (border-mouth) River Murray and Lakes region bounded by the floodplain along the river, north of 35 degrees 5 latitude and south of 34 degrees 00 latitude.
Objectives
Vegetation: To provide detailed information on the composition of plant associations in wetlands of the River Murray. To assess the health of trees associated with wetlands of the River Murray. To collect data that can be used to inform current and future management of wetlands of the River Murray.
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: Complete list of plant species per quadrat using Braun/Blanquet cover abundance scores (variable quadrat size). Assessment of tree health (Eucalyptus camaldulensis and E. largiflorens), along transects. Tree health was rated from a score of 0 for dead trees to 5 for the healthiest trees.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
Project Basis: Vegetation : Biological Survey of South Australia - Standard Survey methodology used.
Fauna : Baseline Survey of flora and/or fauna - Standard Biol Survey of SA survey methodology not used.
