Survey/Project Name: Plant Fire Response Monitoring (Statewide South Australia)
Abstract: This is a state wide project, covering all tenures but focussed on reserves. It aims to determine different plant responses to disturbance, predominantly fire, but not exclusively. This information will then be used to develop appropriate fire regimes. Data is collected in relation to both natural fires and prescribed burns. For prescribed burns the plants are often tagged prior to the burn to allow identification following the fire. Alternatively areas with known fire histories are studied, and plant characteristics and regrowth noted. Note that data collection is opportunistic for wildfires and prescribed burns, however there is a methodology followed, outlined in a hand book that includes field attributes. Data collected includes: - regeneration of plants. - response and regeneration of soil seed blown in. - time taken to develop mature seed. - life expectancy. - voucher specimens if necessary for identification.
