Survey/Project Number: 667          Total No. of Sites: 188
Survey/Project Name: Mount Lofty Ranges Woodland Bird Monitoring Program (NCSSA)
Abstract: The Mount Lofty Ranges Woodland Bird Monitoring Program is a long-term project which aims to assess the evidence for declines in woodland birds through repeated surveys of over 160 sites throughout the Mount Lofty Ranges. Monitoring sites have been selected to sample a range of remnant Stringybark and Pink Gum-Blue Gum vegetation communities. The project was initiated by Professor Hugh Possingham and has been running since 1999. Survey data is gathered annually from September to December. Each site is independently surveyed three times per year using the Bird Atlas - 2ha/20 min methodology. The project is managed and coordinated by the Nature Conservation Society of South Australia (NCSSA) through funding received from the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management (AMLR NRM) Board.

Study Area Description: Stringybark and Pink Gum-Blue Gum woodland of the Mount Lofty Ranges, from Gawler to Victor Harbor.
Objectives
Vegetation: *** No vegetation survey objectives recorded
Fauna: The Mount Lofty Ranges Woodland Bird Monitoring Program is a long-term project which aims to assess the evidence for declines in woodland birds through repeated surveys of over 160 sites throughout the Mount Lofty Ranges.
Methodology
Vegetation: *** No vegetation methodology recorded
Fauna: 3 x (2 hectare, 20 minute) surveys on different days in the morning between September-December annually. Surveys at the same sites are at least a week apart and conducted by a different surveyor.Bird abundance is recorded for each species by observation and hearing. A detailed description of methodology is available from NCSSA.
