Survey/Project Number: 865          Total No. of Sites: 11
Survey/Project Name: Friends of Scott Creek CP: Bird Banding
Abstract: This study aims to explore this data set, to assess long term trends in bird diversity and abundance across the different sites in Scott Creek Conservation park, and also to see if there has been any discernable impact of the habitat restoration work on bird populations. Banding data from Scott Creek Conservation park has been collected since 1993. This data has been analysed to look at changes in the abundance and diversity of bird populations in the park. Revegetation and weed removal work have also been carried out within the park, and the impact of this on bird populations was also investigated. All sites within the park show changes in diversity and the abundance of commonly caught species over the duration of this study. Scott Creek CP lies within the Mount Lofty Ranges, which has been named by the Australian government as one of 15 national biodiversity hotspots. Data up until 2013 was loaded into BDBSA. All data is submitted to ABBBS so will no longer be loaded into BDBSA but accessed by DEW through normal Third Party dataset processes.

Survey Type: Fauna only

Study Area Description: Scott Creek Conservation Park is an 800 hectare park in South Australia, approximately 17 km from the centre of Adelaide.
Objectives
Vegetation: *** No vegetation survey objectives recorded
         Fauna: Refer to Abstract.
Methodology
Vegetation: *** No vegetation methodology recorded
Fauna: Since December 1993, in accordance with Australia's bird and bat-banding scheme (ABBBS), the Friends of the Scott Creek Conservation Park (FOSCCP) have run more than 300 bird-banding sessions, each averaging five hours, at 12 sites across the park. Banding was carried out in accordance with the guidelines laid out by ABBBS, and under the supervision of an A-class bander. Several nets were set up at each site, and once birds were caught, each one was banded with an individually numbered band, and a variety of morphometric measurements were taken.
