Survey/Project Number: 1049          Total No. of Sites: 0
Survey/Project Name: Natural variation in small mammal communities - Wet Cave
Abstract: This project aims to examine small mammal responses to past climate change as recorded in fossil deposit from Wet Cave (5U10), Naracoorte Caves National Park, South Australia, building on Project 1044: Late Quaternary fossil mammals from Wet Cave. Project links to Project 1040: Natural variation in small mammal communities - Blanche Cave, and involved identification of small mammal craniodental material from the site, detailed faunal analyses and sedimentary and chronological analyses. Survey Type: Fauna only

Study Area Description: Entrance Chamber, Wet Cave (5U10), Naracoorte Caves National Park: Zone 54, Easting 481995, Northing 5901072.
Objectives
Vegetation: *** No vegetation survey objectives recorded
         Fauna: Refer to Abstract.
Methodology
Vegetation: *** No vegetation methodology recorded
Fauna: SAMPLE COLLECTION: Fossil material was collected by David Bartholomeuz as per project: Late Quaternary fossil mammals from Wet Cave by Dr Matthew McDowell. VERTEBRATE FOSSIL PREPARATION: Small mammal craniodental material was identified from all layers of Pits 1 and 2. Rodent fossil material was sub-sampled given size of collection. Refer publications for more details. VERTEBRATE FOSSIL REGISTRATION: Small mammal craniodental material was registered to the Flinders University fossil collection (FU20000-20997) SEDIMENTARY ANALYSES: Stratigraphy refined during this project. Refer relevant publications for details. GEOCHRONOLOGICAL ANALYSES: Additional radiocarbon dates were obtained, building on project: Late Quaternary fossil mammals from Wet Cave by Dr Matthew McDowell. Modelling of radiocarbon chronology for the site was undertaken. See publications for details.
