Survey/Project Number: 1162          Total No. of Sites: 0
Survey/Project Name: Pastoral Assessment Database -Arid Lands Information System (ALIS) Plant records
Abstract: The Arid Lands Information System (ALIS) database is used to store data collected by the Pastoral Unit of DEW during Pastoral Lease Assessments as part of the administration of the Pastoral Land Management and Conservation Act 1989. The assessments target typical vegetation types within each paddock. The earliest records are dated 1971 and the program is ongoing. Methodology has evolved over different phases of the pastoral lease assessment program; the major categories being 'Pre Assessment Survey'; 'Quantitative Survey' and 'Observation Survey'. The original methodology was based on 'Jessup Transects' for perennial vegetation. Standardised Photopoints were established at all sites; requiring accurate site coordinates. Plant presence data from ALIS is appended to the internal DEW BDBSA Flora Supertable. No plant voucher details were included in this extract. The ALIS database contains a range of other land and vegetation condition and land management information. Contact the custodians for further access and information. Start Date: 01/01/1971      End Date: 01/01/2030
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: Pastoral Zone - north of South Australia covering all Pastoral Leases. Mainly SAAL; also northern SAMDB and EP (minor) NRM regions.
Objectives
Vegetation: Record and monitor vegetation and land condition.
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: Refer to PASTORAL LEASE ASSESSMENT TECHNICAL TRAINING MANUAL (2011) and updated and historic versions as appropriate. Methodology has evolved over different phases of the pastoral lease assessment program. The original methodology was based on 'Jessup Transects' for perennial vegetation. Standardised Photopoints were established at all sites requiring accurate site coordinates. QS - Quantitative site. A pegged site used for monitoring vegetation changes, with Jessup and/or step-point data (formerly photopoint - PP). OB - Observation site. A pegged site used as an observation site to monitor changes that can be detected by a photographic sequence. e.g. rehabilitation, spread of erosion gullies. Site description includes a list of plant species but with no measured plant data collected. PC - Photo Comparison. Should be used strictly where a photo is to be compared and data collected would not be required, eg. A panorama on a hill top where species in the foreground are not relevant to the background being monitored in a photo.
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded
