Survey/Project Name: Bridal Creeper Control Using Leaf Hoppers
Abstract: Bridal creeper suppresses understorey growth and groundcover of native vegetation. A leaf hopper is being evaluated for controlling bridal creeper. Trials undertaken in two areas, Nixon-Skinner Conservation Park and Fishery Beach at Cape Jervis. Fishery Beach is a more severe problem, with potential to invade Talisker Conservation Park. Project is part of overall regional bridal veil/creeper control scheme. Leaf hopper was released in 2001. Marked and un-numbered photopoints established and periodic observations made. Of immediate monitoring interest is evaluating survival of the hopper with the extent to which it controls bridal creeper being of slightly longer term interest.
