Survey/Project Name: Horse trail monitoring program at Belair
Abstract: Horse trail was established in 1999 as part of an evaluation of suitability of horse trails within Belair National Park. Erosion of the trail with attendant impact on adjoining vegetation communities, the spread of exotic plants and additional fragmentation of native plant communities are identified as potential detrimental effects of horse trails. A short term (3 year) monitoring program has been conducted to assess whether such problems arise and the seriousness of those problems. This monitoring program will be used to evaluate whether horse trails can be established for the longer term and what management requirements they have.
