Survey/Project Name: Upper Fourth Creek Rehabilitation Program
Abstract: Grazing, the planting of introduced species and more recently the alteration of water regime to sustain agricultural practices has drastically altered the pre-european landscape of Upper 4th Creek. Much of the upper storey of the area remains intact with the Candlebark (Eucalyptus dalrympleana) association in the eastern area being a feature of noted conservation significance. West of this association the creekline and riparian area is dominated by Pink Gum (Eucalyptus fasciculosa) which merges with Stringybark (Eucalypyus obliqua) at higher altitudes on south facing slopes. The understorey today contains a great variety of introduced species which continue to threaten remnant native vegetation. Due to the common occurrence of this process across catchments within the Mount Lofty Ranges, many native species confined to catchment areas are now listed as having rated conservation significance. NPWSA is committed to the rehabilitation of land within reserve boundaries with catchment areas being areas of high priority. The Upper Fourth Creek Action Plan outlines activities undertaken in the course of rehabilitation.

Objectives
Vegetation: Upper Fourth Creek has been divided into eight zones. Weed spraying, slashing and tree removal undertaken with follow-up controls and revegetation with native species are the main courses of rehabilitation. Main focus of controls directed at gorse, broom, pine trees and willows. Photographs in the eight zones featuring before and after shots of diverse weed control and revegetation activities have been taken to monitor a five year threat abatement program. No formal photopoints established.
