Fire Vegetation Monitoring in Coorong NP (Wreck Crossing & Potters Land) |
Abstract: |
Fires occurred at 2 localities within the Coorong National Park during November and December 1990, photopoint monitoring sites were established during April 1991 to assess the response mechanisms of plants species recorded in two height structures. The fire at Potters Landing consumed most of the park and therefore the monitoring sites act as their own controls. Another small fire occurred at Wreck Point where two monitoring sites including a control were established.
Quadrats and sub quadrats were measured to determine plant densities, aerial cover and regenerative mechanisms of individual species. Species list including alien species were also collected. A proposal to conduct a direct seeding trial of the Long Point fire area has been put up by Woods & Forest which will include fencing off the Potters Scrub to control rabbits as an aid to rehabilitation. |
