Survey/Project Name: |
Fox Baiting in Morialta and Blackhill Conservation Parks and Quenda Sanctuary |
Abstract: |
The European red fox (Vulpes vulpes), an elusive introduced species is prevalent in the Morialta and Black Hill Conservation Parks area.
Predation by the fox is a major contributing factor to the decline of some native species of bird, reptile, and small mammals. Of particular concern in the Morialta Conservation Park is the decline of the southern brown bandicoot (Isoodon obesulus) population of which fox predation is a known threat.
Baiting stations have been established along walking trails and are laid by parks staff and teams of volunteers over a 6 week period for the years 1999/2000/2001. Bait uptake and fox signs are recorded which indicate there are significant numbers present. |
