Survey/Project Name: Vegetation Monitoring at Fairview, Deep and Tilley Swamp Drains
Abstract: This project aims to monitor the impacts on native vegetation of the installation of the new Fairview, Deep and Tilley Swamp drains. The first sampling was done in 2000 and annual sampling was conducted until 2003, with the possibility of further sampling in five and ten years. Initial monitoring has shown that there is some localised detrimental effects at Hansen, otherwise no dramatic effects are evident - see reports for further details. Annual surveys are conducted using two techniques: (1) Transects of 500m length. Every ten metres, the density and health of Melaleuca halmaturorum and Melaleuca brevifolia was recorded for a 2 metre width each side of the transect. (2) Step point data - a set area is stepped out and whatever is stepped on is recorded - this technique records all species.

Objectives
Vegetation: Annual surveys are conducted using two techniques: (1) Transects of 500m length. Every ten metres, the density and health of Melaleuca halmaturorum and Melaleuca brevifolia was recorded for a 2 metre width each side of the transect. (2) Step point data - a set area is stepped out and whatever is stepped on is recorded - this technique records all species.
Fauna: Initial data collection of veg quadrats along transects incorporating bird inventory, water piezometer reading undertaken by Brenton Grear, the following year fauna trapping lines established, transect data recorded on site sheets and transferred onto Excel, water gauging figures supplied to Biodiversity Assessment Services for incorporation into annual report.
Methodology
Vegetation: *** No vegetation methodology recorded
Fauna: *** No vertebrate methodology recorded

Data Distribution Rules: Public Dataset
Project Basis: Vegetation : Monitoring - Vegetation/Ecosystem (ie species records - usually re-visited for ongoing monitoring) NOTE:NON Std Svy methodology may have been used.
