Survey/Project Name: Kyeema Conservation Park (NPWS 1981)
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a biological survey of Kyeema Conservation Park, near Adelaide, South Australia, in 1977/1978. METHODOLOGY: 1. Systematically sample vegetation and fauna, over the range of vegetation associations, using a series of grids; 2. Map major vegetation associations using photography.

Start Date: 01/10/1977      End Date: 01/06/1978
Survey Type: Vegetation and Fauna

Study Area Description: Kyeema Conservation Park is located approximately 40km south of Adelaide. It can be divided into three sections: the central plateau, the eastern slopes down to Blackfellows Creek and the watercourses and drainage lines. A fourth category based on formerly cleared grazing land is also appropriate. The plateau supports Eucalyptus obliqua forests and woodlands and E.cosmophylla heaths, the slopes are a mixture of E.fasciculosa forests and woodlands and E.obliqua/E.baxteri woodland and forest. Along the watercourses are E.ovata forests and woodlands and a variety of swamps and bogs. Area contained within the boundaries of Kyeema Conservation Park. There are 4 sites located just outside of spatial boundary of the Kyeema CP, they are Patch Id 9453, 9473, 9478 and 9479.
Objectives
Vegetation: To sample the vegetation and fauna over the range of vegetation associations systematically using a series of grids and to map using photography the major vegetation associations.
Fauna: *** No fauna survey objectives recorded
Methodology
Vegetation: 100 x 100m grid sampling quantitatively with 50 "patches" within the quadrat at measured intervals. All plants counted within each "patch" and relative frequency for each species calculated. Forty nine additional quadrats sampled with presence/absence data only.
Fauna: Traplines of 5-10 pitfall traps (depending on local conditions), 20 Elliott traps and 3 cage traps set for four days and nights. Bird observations, one hour in vicinity of each trapline. Some spotlighting and opportune searching elsewhere in Park.
