Survey/Project Number: 446          Total No. of Sites: 182
Survey/Project Name: Bandicoot Hairtube and Diggings Survey - Mount Lofty Region
Abstract: The work intended to incorporate various field projects that aimed to assess and monitor the distribution and conservation status of the Southern Brown Bandicoot in the Mount Lofty Ranges. These projects would include: - determining the distribution of this sub-species in the region - identifying optimal survey and monitoring protocols - establishing monitoring programs to determine best-practice habitat and pest species management techniques - establishing the connectivity of remnant habitat in the region by examining the genetic variation within and between populations The survey involved hair tubes and tracking tunnels. Tracking tunnels were not checked for a week and were soggy and too busy with tracks to be useful.

Objectives
         Vegetation: Broad date range entered - needs to be corrected
         Fauna: New data added under this project as follows: Following data taken from report prepared by Luke Price named: Report on the monitoring program for southern brown bandicoots in the Mt Lofty Ranges Region. A monitoring program was developed and trialled in 2010 which would enable the rapid assessment of changes in the extent of occurrence of Bandicoots in the Mt Lofty Ranges (Bentley and van Weenen 2010; Bentley, 2011). The methodology relies on the identification of diggings to determine bandicoot presence. Following assessment of 53 potential sites identified from historic records, aerial photography and ease of access; Bentley (2011) identified 42 long-term monitoring sites. Digging searches were performed at monitoring sites using the methodology identified in Bentley and van Weenen (2010) and including modifications in Bentley (2011). - GPS co-ordinates were used to navigate to the search start point of the site/search area. - Sites were searched until 3 bandicoot diggings were located or for a maximum of 30 minutes - Three diggings per site were considered sufficient to record bandicoots as present;
