Survey/Project Number: 57          Total No. of Sites: 6
Survey/Project Name: Stirling District Council
Abstract: This project aims to conduct a biological survey to examine the Stirling District Council area, near Adelaide, South Australia, in 1993. AIMS: 1. Locate and map the remaining indigenous roadside vegetation; 2. Assess the condition of remnant vegetation on both roadside verges and other council reserves; 3. Identify areas of high conservation significance; 4. Identify management issues associated with the long-term conservation of remnant vegetation.

Start Date: 18/05/1993      End Date: 27/08/1993
Survey Type: Vegetation Only

Study Area Description: District Council of Stirling - includes high rainfall areas of Mt Lofty District (1100mm per year); ranging from steep escarpments in the northwest section of Crafers to undulating hills towards Mylor and Hahndorf. Most of the Blue Gum/Manna Gum (Eucalyptus leucoxylon/Eucalyptus viminalis) woodlands have been cleared for agriculture. Most of the remnant vegetation exists as Messmate stringybark Eucalyptus obliqua or mixed Eucalyptus obliqua/Eucalyptus baxteri. Open forest with areas of cup gum, Eucalyptus cosmophylla, pink gum, Eucalyptus fasciculosa and candlebark, Eucalyptus rubida. District Council of Stirling - Roadside Vegetation Survey 5 GIS survey sites within the District Council of Stirling and 1 site at junction of District Council of Stirling and Mitcham City Council.
