Survey/Project Number: 572          Total No. of Sites: 502
Survey/Project Name: Yudnapinna and Surrounding Lakes
Abstract: A biological survey was undertaken to the Yudnapinna and Lakes district to document flora and fauna responses to rainfall in the district in early 2007. The project was jointly carried out by the SA Herbarium and Biological Survey and Monitoring Branch of the Department for Environment and Heritage and the SA Museum. All flora and fauna species that were encountered were recorded but the survey effort focussed on vegetation, bird and invertebrate species. Over a seven day period, participants travelled through the area and stopped at selected sites to record species and in some cases take samples and photographs. Vegetation quadrats were surveyed using the standard Biological Survey of SA methodology. Some temporary traps may be used to collect insects small mammals and reptiles. The lush conditions allowed for numerous plant collections to be made across the whole survey region. Free water in many lakes resulted in numerous waterbird records.
